The Itasca County District Court handles all court records filed within the county. Court Administrator Lisa Havluck oversees court operations and records management from the courthouse in Grand Rapids. The court is part of the Ninth Judicial District, which covers a large region of northern Minnesota including Aitkin, Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Crow Wing, Hubbard, Kittson, Koochiching, Lake of the Woods, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Pennington, Polk, Red Lake, and Roseau counties in addition to Itasca.
Staff can help you find case records, pull documents, and process copy requests. Free surface lot parking and on-street parking are both available at the courthouse. The court posts a weekly public court calendar each business day at 7:00 a.m., updated hourly throughout the day.

Search Itasca County Court Records Online
Minnesota Court Records Online (MCRO) is the free statewide access system for court case information. It covers Itasca County District Court cases. You can search by name, case number, attorney name, or business entity name. The system shows party names, case status, docket entries, and hearing dates. Documents filed on or after July 1, 2015 are generally available through MCRO. Older documents may have limited online access.
The MCRO system at publicaccess.courts.state.mn.us has four main search tabs: Case Search, Document Search, Hearing Search, and Judgment Search. The Judgment Search tab is useful if you need to find docketed money judgments by debtor name. Some case types, including civil commitment and juvenile delinquency felony cases for those 16 and older, are not accessible through MCRO due to confidentiality rules.

Under Minn. Stat. § 13.03, the public has the right to inspect and copy government data, including court records that are classified as public. Getting Copies of Court Records
You can get copies of Itasca County court records in person at the courthouse or by submitting a written request by mail. The Court Administrator's office processes copy requests during regular business hours. Bring ID when visiting in person. For mail requests, send a written request with the case number or party name, the documents you need, and payment to the courthouse address.
Standard copy fees in Minnesota courts apply to Itasca County. Certified copies cost $14.00 per document. Exemplified and certified copies run $28.00. Plain uncertified copies are free. If you need scanning of large records, there is a fee of $25 per 50 pages or part thereof. These fees are set by the state and apply across most Minnesota district courts.

This is separate from court records but often used together when researching someone's background.
Most court records in Itasca County are public. Some categories are restricted by law, including juvenile records, civil commitment cases, certain family court documents, and cases involving victims of certain crimes. When in doubt, ask the Court Administrator which documents are available and which ones require a court order to access.
