The courthouse itself has historic significance. Though the cornerstone was laid July 13, 1909, the building was completed in 1910. It was designed by C.E. Bell of Minneapolis and built by O.J. Oyen of La Crosse, Wisconsin at a cost of $41,700 plus plumbing and heating. The building was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
